Swanhurst Serenity, Estate of the Day

Today's estate, Swanhurst Serenity is a vintage grand dame in Spring Lake, New Jersey. Located overlooking the lake, this early 1900s beauty is also within walking distance of both the beach and town. The seven-bedroom estate could use a bit of updating but it has plenty of historic details to treasure like the columned wraparound porch. The one-acre property also includes a guest house in need of an update. This estate is listed at $7.999 million.

Prokhorov Says He Didn't Buy Villa Leopolda Either

Now this is just getting ridiculous. First Roman Abramovich was rumored to have bought Villa Leopolda, the pricey estate in Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera. Then Russian precious metals mogul Mikhail Prokhorov was said to have snapped it up. As my colleague Jared Paul Stern reported over the weekend, Prokhorov is the 24th richest man in the world with a $22 billion fortune and was briefly detained during an investigation into a suspected prostitution ring at a ski resort in the French Alps. Turns out Prokhorov still has some hurt feelings over that bit of police drama says BBC News and according to a spokesman, refuses to do business in France until he gets a proper apology.

We are starting to run out of Russian billionaires to pin this on. Well, that's not entirely true, there is still a long list but hopefully someone will own up to the $750 million purchase pretty soon. You can't keep a secret that big for too long.

Ridgefield Modern, Estate of the Day

We've been looking at a lot of traditional homes lately so let's mix it up with a big slice of modern. Today's home was designed by architect Rafael Vinoly in 1994. It sits on a five acre hilltop setting with long views in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The home has both indoor/outdoor pools and a glass bridge to the private tower which houses the master bedroom, penthouse office and an observation deck. The interior features lots of heavy concrete, wood ceilings and so much stainless steel, the owner probably has to employ a designated polisher. It's stunning but I wonder how easy it is to live in. It's listed at $10 million.

Chandler Mansion, Estate of the Day

I mentioned this one back in 2006 but it deserves another look with some new pictures. There's a reason it's been on the market for a long time, it appeals to a very particular style. This eight-bedroom home in Chandler, Arizona has a manor style that seems rather out of place in the Southwest. The home was built in the 1980s by someone with a taste for the baroque. It is on over 11 acres and the home itself has over 13,600 square feet of space. Most of the furniture is remaining with the house because it was purchased for the home. The home also has an English bar with a pool table, a large theater room, game room, wine cellar and two workout rooms. The estate also includes a guest house, gardeners house and a garage that can hold 15 cars. Murals, stained glass and an amazing barrel vaulted library room all contribute to the overall sense of English style gone theme park. A Sotheby's listing shows the home at an even $10 million but the property website has it at $8.8 million. It was listed at $11.5 million back in 2006.

Mystery Buyer of World's Most Expensive House Revealed

The mysterious billionaire who just bought the world's most expensive house - the $750 million Villa Leopolda (above) on the French Riviera - is none other than controversial Russian precious metals mogul Mikhail Prokhorov, the AFP reports. Luxist readers may remember Prokhorov as the over-the-top tycoon who announced plans in April to spend $150 million launching a magazine for snobs in Russia, called simply Snob. Prokhorov is ranked as the 24th richest man in the world with a $22 billion fortune. Some earlier reports had erroneously identified the villa's buyer as Roman Abramovich. Last year Prokhorov was briefly detained during an investigation into a suspected prostitution ring at the ritzy ski resort he frequents in the French Alps.

Jenna Jameson Slept Here, Estate of the Day

Just when I was despairing of finding a fun celebrity home to dish about this Sunday, the Real Estalker Mama delivered with the news that infamous porn goddess Jenna Jameson has put her Los Angeles home on the market. Jameson's three-bedroom home is a sweet little piece of Los Angeles history, a Spanish style charmer that was a former Valentino family home.

The multi-story Mediterranean is a quirky mix of California casual with some of the more bold choices you might expect from a woman with a reputation to uphold such as a bordello-red bathroom and a media room with black striped walls, a zebra striped ottoman and sliding glass doors leading out to the courtyard spa. There's much to love here including the tiled staircases, gleaming hardwood floors and beamed ceilings. It also must be noted that she has one impressive shoe collection in her large dressing room. But the house does seem to be one of those hillside homes that gives you stairs at ever turn, stairs to the entrance and the home has a piecey multilevel vibe. Not great as a family home.

Jameson must be in a hurry to move (there is that pregnancy rumor after all) because she's put the home on the market for the same price she paid in 2006, $2.7 million.

The Wyck Estate, Estate of the Day

The Wyck Estate in Manchester-by-the Sea, Massachusetts is another old beauty that has been on the market for a while. It had been on the market for at least a year when I first wrote about it in 2005. This is one of the most beautiful homes on Masschusetts's North Shore. Built in 1912, the main residence is a replica of a French chateau created using bricks imported from France. The 7.85 acre compound also includes tennis courts, a private beach, boat house, children's playhouse and a filtered saltwater pool. The home has been owned by the same person since 1944 so it maintains its original charm including marble fireplaces, plenty of carved wood and ornate stonework. This grand summer estate was on the market for $23.5 million three years ago. Now it looks like the carriage house is being sold in a separate parcel of 2.1 acres and the main home is for sale for $13.25 million.

Gossip Girl in Upper Brookville, Estate of the Day

If you want to sell a this house attractive, why not also make a little money using it in film shoots? Today's home in Upper Brookville,NY was recently used in two episodes of the trendy television show "Gossip Girl" but has a scandalous past all its own. It will be showcased in the upcoming season which will include scenes from a "white party." The home has also been used in a Kohl's commercial and Ludacris filmed an AT &T commercial in June. The home is certainly party ready with a foyer with dual wraparound staircases perfect for dramatic descents, a 65-foot ballroom, a gym and a saltwater swimming pool that sits in a greenhouse-like glass enclosure. The five-bedroom home is on five acres which back up to an arboretum.

This estate may also be familiar to long-time readers of this column, in fact it was an estate of the day in 2007. That's when the home was seized as part of "Operation VIN City," an 18-month investigation that busted up the largest stolen car ring on the East Coast. It was the home of ringleader Michael Pescatore and was sold at auction by the Treasury Department on March 22. Real estate agent Kim Greenberg and her fiancé, real estate developer, Fred Rudd picked up the home for $8.3 million which is pretty close to what two sharp commenters guessed it would go for in my 2007 post.. Now it's all prettied up and on the market for $12.9 million.

Donald Trump is Ed McMahon's New Landlord

I usually save Ann Brenoff's Hot Property column in the L.A. Times for the Sunday Real Estate Round-Up but this is too interesting not to share as soon as possible. Donald Trump has offered to step in and buy Ed McMahon's Beverly Hills home and allow McMahon to continue living there. Trump said in an interview with the Times that although he didn't know McMahon personally he grew up watching him on television and felt that it was an honor to step in and help.

McMahon who is 85 and suffered a debilitating neck injury last year was facing foreclosure within two weeks on his Beverly Hills home. McMahon bought the home in 1990 for $2.6 million and has had it on the market for several years. Most recently it was listed at $4.6 million as shown in the Hilton & Hyland listing. McMahon had defaulted on $4.8 million in mortgage loans with Countrywide Financial Corp.

Trump isn't giving McMahon a free ride. He plans to buy the home from the lender and lease it back to McMahon. According to the Times, McMahon's listing agent, Alex Davis of Hilton & Hyland flew to New York to make a personal pitch to Trump to save McMahon's home.

UPDATE: The LA Times reports that listing agent, Alex Davis, has said there is a second anonymous would-be buyer and so the property is now in a "multiple offer situation."

Elvis Presley's Palm Springs Home On The Market

Some names add cachet to a house years after they have moved on. Elvis Presley definitely falls into that category. Now his Palm Springs home, basically his "Graceland West" is up for sale in a pocket listing (meaning I can't direct you to a listing page). The home is located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs. Elvis lived in the home for almost eight years (he purchased it in 1970) and spent his last birthday there.

The approximately 5,000 square foot home has four bedrooms. Architect Albert Frey designed the Spanish-style stucco home which includes Presley's bedroom suite with two complete bathrooms, a sunken black and red tile tub, and dressing area. The living room has a cathedral beamed ceiling and overlooks the pool. The home is being sold with Presley's original kitchen appliances, a separate indoor sauna and steam room, plus his private covered Jacuzzi.

Just last year Reno Fontana and his wife, Laura bought the home and announced plans to restore it and offer it as a West Coast destination for Elvis fans. They also created a website dedicated to the home which does show a few interior pictures of the vintage decor and Elvis movie posters and gold records on the walls.

The property is approximately two acres and is listed at $17 million. For more information about the property, or to request a showing, contact Honey Brooks at 415.435.2585 or honeybrooksrealtor (at) comcast.net.

Mariah Carey's Summer Vacation Rental, Stone Meadow Farm, Estate of the Day

It's hard not to envy Mariah Carey's Hamptons adventures. Last summer she made herself cozy in Tommy Hilfiger's tribute to the tasteful use of orange and this summer Braden Keil of the NY Post reports that Mariah is renting Stone Meadow Farm in East Hampton for on week for $125,000 (less than half of the reported $350,000 she spent on Hilfiger's pad but that was for a month).

Like Hilfiger's place was, this one is also up for sale. Stone Meadow Farm is on eight acres and has a 18,000 square foot house with 10 bedrooms and 12.5 bathrooms done up in white and dark brown with white walls and furnishings and dark wood floors and wood tables. The shingled expanse includes a 3500 sq ft finished lower level with a spa and media room.

The grounds include two separate cottages to house guests or staff as well as stone courtyards, large patios, a heated Gunite pool and a tennis court. The barn can stable five horses and there are ample riding fields. This home is listed for $19.95 million.
